The Witch Ball
Witch balls were very popular in 18th century England, but their actual origin is thought to be much older. Hollow glass balls have been hung in the windows of homes for centuries to ward off witch's spells, evil spirits, and ill fortune. The spell, evil spirit, or ill fortune is attracted to these decorative balls. Upon touching the Witch Ball, they are pulled into it and are trapped within its glass web, protecting the home from any harm. Today, Witch Balls are available in a variety of single color and multi-color ("art glass") blown glass spheres which are seldom perfectly round and come in various sizes. Each is a one-of-a-kind original artwork reflecting the creative spirit of the glass artisan who created it.
