I bought a reversible candle and burned it completely down in five days, not seven, and the glass was black from top to bottom. My friend tells me this means I have a lot of negativity in my house. This has me really worried. What do I do?

Dear Worried,

Relax... just relax... Often when the candles are made, the consistency is not regulated, causing the candle to burn quicker or longer than seven days depending on the consistency. Spiritually, sometimes if your charge is stronger than usual, more energy goes into the candle and the candle burns quicker, like gas poured on a fire causes the fire to burn faster. Papa Dré and I burn many candles and most of our seven day candles take about 5 ½ days. One time we did research. We charged green candle #1, did not charge green candle #2, and we had someone else charge green candle #3. All were lit at the same time. Candle #1 took 5 ½ days, candle #2 took 7 ½ days and candle #3 took 7 days to burn out. This was repeated two more times, and the results were basically the same each time.

The amount of oil used to dress a candle also can cause it to burn faster or slower. I've had candles last up to 10 days because we kept adding three drops of oil daily to the candle and the flame burned off of the oil before consuming the wax. Adding oil must be watched very carefully because the candle becomes more flammable. I have also had candles explode from oils. Many Spanish spells call for adding oil daily. We try to plan our spells without adding oil to an already burning candle. If you feel you must add oils, I advise caution when dropping the oils in.

Regarding the black on your glass, many people believe that means negativity is coming against your work. For the most part I believe that, most especially when it's a reversing candle! I always put a glass of water with 3 pinches of sea salt in front of the candle to dispel any negative influences. I have noticed that this water majick makes the outcome quicker and stronger. Stronger and quicker is always good in reversing nasty majick!

Also, be careful where you buy your candles! The less expensive candles in your grocery store are less expensive because they are cheaply made with cheap materials which always burn sooty, not to mention the energy they pick up with whomever touching them thinking whatever. Candles pick up the vibrations of their surroundings and where you buy your candles is as important as the frame of mind you are in when you prepare them. Imagine for a minute, what goes on in the aisles of the grocery store. Really... people arguing, women beating their kids, gossip, etc., etc. All of the chaos goes into the grocery store candles. I always buy my candles in a well-chosen specialty store like Off the Beaten Path to eliminate all that extra bad energy.
