Color Symbolism of Candles
BLACK
Aids in uncrossing (absorbs negativity). It can also be used for work involving the ancestors or mourning.

BLUE
Used for healing. Blue promotes peace, tranquility, patience, calmness. It aids in spiritual understanding, and increases perception when used in meditation.

BROWN
Earth, hearth and home, grounding.

GOLD
Used to symbolize the God. Use as a magnetic drawing aid in rituals involving other candles. It's also burned for personal success and riches.

GRAY
A mixture of black and white, gray candles are used for grounding, reversing negativity, and neutrality.

GREEN
Use for money, material success, prosperity, abundance, fertility, and new beginnings.

ORANGE
Enhances concentration (clear headedness), courage, adaptability, joy.

PINK
Romantic love, affection, and friendship.

PURPLE
Royal authority (Court cases), protection, and acts as an aid in overcoming obstacles, Spirituality. Also used for business progress (power in worldly affairs).

RED
Promotes vigor, sexual love or energy, physical strength, strength (power).

SILVER
Used to symbolize the Goddess.

WHITE
Spiritual strength, purity, peace, and protection from dark forces (absorbs negativity).

YELLOW
Drawing, used to add solar power to rituals. It is also used as an aid in mediumistic work (clear mental facilities). Enhances communication.

Types of Candles
Cat Candles
Burned to reverse bad luck.

Cross or Crucifix Candles
Used as altar candles to uplift one's consciousness, cleanse the atmospheres and attract positive spirits from which you will receive aid.

Devil Candles
Burned to exorcise or release negative holds on individuals. As the candle burns, the negative condition burns away also.

Image Candles
Candles in the shape of a man or a woman act as an aid in the visualization process to associate the candle with the person toward whom the spell is directed.

Novena or 7 Day Candle
A 9" tall, glass encased candle which burns for approximately 7 days. They are generally given very particular purposes, according to the designs and symbols on the glass jar.

Regular Candles
Plain, straight round candles come in many sizes, which affect their burning time.

These include: "minis" which burn a few hours; small votives types which burn 10 hours; jumbos which burn 15 hours; seven day (and even 14 day!) candles which burn for more than an entire week.

Reversible Action Candles
Two-color candles where one end is red, white, or green and the other end is black or where the inside is red, green, or white and the outside is coated with a layer of black wax. Burned to dispel evil influences and to send them back from wherever they came. Usually, red is used for love conditions, green is used for money conditions, and white is used for all other conditions.

Seven-Knob (Or Wishing) Candles
Using the appropriate color for your intention, burn an entire candle for a wish, one knob each day for a week. Write your wish down on a piece of parchment paper and place it under the candleholder before starting your ritual.

Skull Candles
Generally used for revenge, to break hexes & reverse adverse circumstances, and to banish death. The symbolism is that as the "face of death" burns away the practitioner will grow stronger.
